What are Artist Trading Cards?
Artist trading cards, abbreviated as ATC’s, are 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches cards that can be made with any medium. They originated from Switzerland during 1996/1997. These are the simple rules I was taught apply to these cards:
- They must be 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches (63 mm X 89 mm) in size.
- They can ONLY be traded or exchanged for another original artist trading card.
- They should be signed and dated on the back. Other contact information can be added.
- Cards have to be able to lay flat and fit inside a clear sleeve.
Some people like to sell copies or even sell their originals (though it goes against the idea of ATC’s) in this case they’re called ACEO’s (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) I personally like to trade my originals and will only sell copies. I highly encourage you to try making your own cards and trading them with others. It’s really a lot of fun!
