I hadn’t done a self portrait in quite some time, and felt it was time for another. I spent about 20+ hours on this drawing I wanted an intimate scene between the crow and myself. I have an attentive yet relaxed look as I listen to what the crow has to say to me. The autumn leaves and bare branch show that winter is coming and also a darker time. A blackness is starting to swallow the entire piece. The waxing moon is also a symbol for change. It’s waxing though showing that there’s much more in this future than just darkness. A second light illuminates this piece other than the moon and stars. I thought that it was a light that the crow and I could only see as if it’s a glimmer of hope, a reason to not be fearful.
The emotion I hoped to convey is a relaxed anticipation.
